5 Common Myths About Bed Bugs
#1: Bed bugs are invisible
False. Adult bed bugs, nymphs, and their eggs are all visible to the naked eye.
#2: Bed bugs live in filthy surroundings or prefer dirty places.
False. Bed bugs prefer to live in clutter; however, they are not drawn to the dirt but rather to the warmth. Blood and carbon dioxide (C02) are also magnets for this pest, but dirt itself is not appealing to bed bugs.
#3: Bed bugs can only bite you at night
False. Although they prefer darker lighting, bed bugs can and will bite you at any time, that is, if they are hungry and you are around. Popping on the light, unfortunately, does not deter this pest.
#4: Bed bugs only infest mattresses
False. Bed bugs can also live in couches and chairs, be transported by bags and pets, and be picked up at places as common as the movie theater, on the bus, or at the mall.
#5: Bed bugs transmit deadly diseases
False. As strange as it seems, there are actually no reported cases of bed bugs directly transmitting human disease. Other symptoms, like insomnia and nervousness, as well as side effects such as secondary infections, can be caused by the presence of bed bugs. However, zero cases of disease transmission have been reported even though they can, in fact, harbor over 20 human pathogens.
What You Can Do to Help Prevent Bed Bugs
Prevention is the best approach for bed bugs. Making sure not to pick up furniture off the side of the road or that has been stored outside can help to decrease your chances of bed bugs getting into your home. Sealing up any cracks and entryways in walls lessens the chances for pests to enter and multiply.
Another helpful tip is to keep a tidy and organized living space. Bed bugs find more places to live in cluttered areas than in those that are well maintained.
If, however, you do find yourself with a bed bug infestation, the best thing you can do is call the Charlotte bed bug control professionals at Truly Nolen. When bed bug infestations aren’t handled properly, they can spread the bed bugs instead of eliminating them.
The first and most important step is a complete inspection and identification of the infestation to determine the severity. Once the extent of the bed bug problem established, we will recommend the proper treatment.
An integrated pest management program that addresses sanitation, material application, and exclusion is necessary for bed bug control. Our control program features a high-pressure misting system.
It involves a 4-step process that includes:
- Mattress, box spring, and bed frame
- Crevices where the floor meets the walls
- Wall voids
A follow-up inspection will take place about 7-10 days after our service to ensure the bed bugs have been eradicated.
Brandon was awesome. He was attentive, patient, and very informative. He even included our youngest child in the process which really made our son's day. The attention to detail and his willingness to help me pinpoint access areas that could be potential entry for pests made me feel very comfortable with the process. He even recommended other services based on inspection points that I would have never imagined would be offered. He's definitely created a loyal customer as of today. Thanks, Brandon!Maria D.
Always have a great experience with the techs at Truly Nolen. Brandon S. came out today and took care of several of our trouble areas with insects. He had so much patience and took the time to explain what he was going and why when I asked. Very friendly. Would recommend.Jen W.
I am so very pleased with the service we received from Truly Nolan. Our technician, Don, is such a pleasurable person. He shares his knowledge with us about infestation and what it takes to be thorough. We have never found him to be ‘rushed’ or in a hurry, and yet it doesn’t feel like he is ‘slow’. Clearly, he knows his business and we continue to look forward to Don’s visit to protect our home.Vicki T.
Brandon is exceptional! I truly appreciate his professionalism, vast knowledge, friendliness, and that he listens to my concerns and addresses them. I'm very happy with Truly Nolen for providing such a great well-trained technician with awesome customer service skills. Thank you!Reese
Brandon was a great tech. Explained everything he was doing - including how the rainy weather adjusts the protocol for treatment. We have a baby and a dog. He was willing to start his applications where we asked him to so that the baby's room (and attic overhead) would be clear for her naptime. And with the rainy day protocol, he made sure we knew to keep the dog inside for the appropriate amount of time - due to the use of a different outdoor treatment than on dry days. He was also considerate to make sure he had permission to access each of our rooms and closets. No complaints!Kevin G.
